Yes I'm sure that will be a worry to most especially when both have P. Thing is, it sometimes skip a generation or two. We are all scared that our kids may get it but I pray my daughters doesn't. They are now 25 & 27 and I have a grandchild of 4. They haven't shown any signs of P except for my daughter of 25. she got a few spots for a couple of weeks but it went away quick so I'm not sure it is P as it did flake or itch or anything. could be an allergic reaction to something she ate or a skin product? My parents did not have P nor did their parents or grandparents but two of my uncles had Psoriasis and now myself, my brother and my sister but mine was the most severe. My brother and sister drink beer. YES BEER lol. and their P is gone. they might sometimes get a spot or two but never bad. None of their children have Psoriasis. I got married and my husband doesn't have kids. Luckily he doesn't want any either and maybe its because he is scared the child will be born with it like himself? so yes, I do understand where you're coming from and I would be too if I didn't have children but there is a big chance that the child may not get P? this is a choice everyone has to make unfortunately as we do not want our child to go through what we do sometimes. :)
Hi Claire, I just take a teaspoon turmeric powder and mix it with my water. not a heaped spoon though. But now I only drink it maybe 3 times a week as my skin is good and I can't complain about inflammation. :)
Elizabeth, definitely, dairy products aren't good for us but I do like cheese once in a while. I do drink milk in my coffee as well. Well you should consult your doctor first before drinking turmeric if you have other problems too. turmeric is great for detoxing the liver and keeps inflammation at bay, but, what works for me, might not work for others :)
I've read that recent studies continue to examine the relationship between the two. One study showed that children with psoriasis were at much greater risk of being obese, while another showed being overweight at 18 increased the risk of developing psoriatic arthritis. Research also shows that losing weight can improve psoriatic disease symptoms and help make treatments more effective. - This is the truth. I was very overweight a couple of years ago and my P was worse than ever. Since I've started to loose weight, my P got better and inflammation wasn't as bad because I changed my lifestyle around food and exercises. Unfortunately, we can't just go and eat what we like the whole time. we have to pay attention to our body.
Ed, I'm sorry. Yes your mom is too old to change now I do agree with you but hey, keep your chin up and stay positive. You are doing good and not long you'll be great. :)
Elaine, how sweet of you to say that thank you. Oh, I can be very rude and obnoxious too but we are all in the same boat with our condition and it breaks my heart to see how some suffer because of others. We are here to support each other and I have learned so much from a lot of Flaymers and their advice has made me a stronger person more sincere person. Thank you :)
Hey Rosie. Oh yes when it comes to certain food, I start itching and flaring.
I can't eat the following food: Pasta, nightshades, dairy, processed food and Red meat but I do eat red meat occasionally.
Food I can eat: Basmati rice occasionally. salads, any veggies work for me. Sweet potato. White meat like chicken and fish. (Oh the fish does wonders for my P. I don't eat gassy foods too much as I've noticed that I start itching when Im bloated so I don't eat it a lot). Cut all junk food out of your diet and all fizzy drinks for starters. No sugary food at all.
My body is used to the food I'm eating so whenever I feel like a chocolate I have it and I don't itch. Same with junk food. I don't eat it often and when I do, nothing happens because I changed the way I eat. I drink turmeric water in the morning as it is a anti-inflammatory spice and very good for a person. It helps keep the inflammation at bay and it works good for me. I also put it in my food as much as I can.
Sorry about that Ed. I can imagine how torturous it must be to be around her and no matter what you do, it will never be good enough for her but still you seek that acknowledgment which is why you hang around. It is sad as we are all looking for the love and approval of our parents and what some don't realize is the effect their attitude has on a child growing up. You deserved to be loved and to be treated well. You deserve to be your own person and not to seek approval the whole time. You deserve to be happy. You are your own person. You're strong Ed and I know you can heal from all the bad memories you have. Start by believing in yourself, be who you are, be strong. Don't get depressed when around your mother. Stay positive as narcissists hate positive people. They will do everything to make you miserable but only you can show her that her words and deeds has no effect on you whatsoever. Mind over matter my friend. Next time you visit and she starts throwing insults etc, get up and leave. Doesn't matter how many times you have to do this, you will heal at the end and come out stronger as you will see her words have no EFFECT on YOU any more. I'm sure she will start choosing her words wisely when you're around as deep down, she is actually the one who is looking for approval although she will never admit it. In her eyes, she is the best. We are warriors and we do what is necessary for US. Good luck. :)
Hi Elaine. True yes. I on the other hand won't go to that side of the track as I'm newly wed and my hubby also have P, so that section, I will avoid of course unless someone ask for advice in a P relationship of course. It will be good to have a section for singles where they can meet up etc. I met my hubby on Flaym as all know and everyone else deserve to find love and happiness.
Hi Ewa. Oh we all know that feeling. too terrible especially when you flare up. I know I always say this over and over again, but you need to look at what food you take in. You can't go and have a juicy burger with soda while having a flare. It will just get worse. Your body is inflamed and you need to focus on eating anti-inflammatory food. Unfortunately not all of us are the same. what works for me might not work for you. I drink turmeric in the mornings and I eat mostly veggies, salad and white meat. I do eat red meat twice a week. I also use a tar cream for my P. It slows down the growth of the skin cells. Try keep most of your food anti inflammatory. no juicy fat making food and no fizzy drinks. your system has been triggered by the antibiotics but it can get better. stay focused, determined and see the improvement. Good luck. :)
Hi Ed. Quora is one of my favorite places to go :) well, the narcissist has the absence of conscience, a psychological need for power, and a sense of importance and insecurity which is why they try to intimidate others. I do not associate myself with people like that as they are toxic and definitely not good for us. They don't like me and I don't like them and I would not even want to negotiate sitting in the same room as them for 10 minutes. I'll just lose it. We have a choice of who we want to include in our circle, family or no family. Do what is best for you and avoid all the toxic people in your life. You matter. Not them. :)
Yes to be diagnosed with Psoriasis can be very alarming for one as we do not know what to expect. looking at pictures, reading some posts about P will freak us out but, we are not all the same. I was diagnosed with P in 1992. I was 17. I only had 3 flares during this time and once, my P disappeared for years. I don't go to Derm's anymore, nor do I see a GP about my P. I've learned how to control the condition. I am basically 5% covered and that is nothing to me. I had strep throat & Bronchitis last November and my P flared up. My GP gave me cortisone but it did not really work. The spots are gone now but healthy eating does help. Oh I cheat with food but I keep it balanced. Don't worry about this. Try to have a good diet, get enough sun and try to stay healthy. I'm using a tar ointment almost every day for the past 27 years and this has helped me to manage my P as well. Good luck and remember we are all here to support you :)
