James @ferns

I was around 20 when I first noticed it, on my scalp. It stayed just there for maybe five or six years and then started moving to other areas.

john,darts vader @chewbacca

sorry to hear this james and jane, i look at it it is bad at any age i know but, cant imagine getting up seeing completely clear skin everyday for years from a young age ,no creams or medicated shampoo to think about then this happens to you thank you

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

been born with it, i have had times i been ok and some a nightmare especially from when i was a young child,i could get covered in it(psoriasis) and moving around could be hard especially with cracking and bleeding, not good when you want to be active and play

Linda
Linda @linda1953

itching and flaking started in the Fall of 1994 - I was 41 and in college - no warning - nothing particularly stressful going on - I will be 65 soon - gets worse every year - now I wear unstylish very long hair to keep it hidden - no longer able to wear my hair up either

I had no inkling of anything until I was pregnant with my second baby at nearly 26yrs old. I knew nothing of psoriasis or had any family members that had it. Although I did have family with other autoimmune disorders. After a handful of years of continual treatment with my dermatologist I went into remission for 8+yrs until a I became pregnant with my 3rd child, a late in life baby at age 38. I had symptoms of a flare before I even knew I was pregnant again. He is five now and it has been an all out battle, not even so much to get clear this time, but for the pain to be tolerable. It's like it came back with a vengeance, waking up the beast sort of thing. I hate it and feel deeply for anyone who suffers from it to any degree.

Susan
Susan @godcares

John I'm sure you already know but for me it was 7 years old and just popped up during a very traumatic family event! Never went away till I did my lifestyle change. My arthritis was in my 20's. Same with my lupus diagnosis.

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

hello susan, just interested to know as people who got it later know what its like to be a clear skin, with no worries about it,take it all for granted, then this and your life is turned upside down, like a doc says, you have cancer, sorry to say that but, cant imagine the feeling from being a clear skin

Sarah
Sarah @sarah71

I was 33 years old and got it 3 weeks before my weeding

Susan
Susan @godcares

john I agree... Would be almost tougher if you got it later in life after having clear skin. My childhood was very tough because of psoriasis. I guess I did my time. LOL. Being clear now is maybe the blessing as I have been through alot. Still have the scarring though so lest I forget what others are going through. I never take for granted how blessed I am.

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

oh dear, was that gardening,? doing the weeding or your wedding sarah? :) sorry you got this later in life

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

like my friend, his dad said he had it bad as a child, i wouldnt think so with how gets it and he dosnt get it everywhere like i can, we are all different i know. i had warned the doctor yesterday that i am flaking down below, best give him a warning for the operation, they may have a laugh while i am sleep, who knows :)

James
James @ferns

My biggest fear was for my kids. They're 36 and 32 now and so far nothing, so fingers crossed.

Richard
Richard @richardcvx

My psoriasis started when I was 28, Guttate psoriasis from head to toe within a week and a half. Started after a really bad saw throat, I think it was triggered by stress as it happened at a very stressful time. I'd never heard of it at the time, was very worried and it made the stress worse as I didn't know what was happening.

Jacqueline
Jacqueline @jholly

I was 40 years old when my psoriasis first showed up.

Susanne
Susanne @SusiQ

I developed the psoriasis plaques when I was 64. I had been diagnosed in my 40's with osteoarthritis, Sjogrens Syndrome, an autoimmune disease. Also high thyroid antibodies in 1997 and spinal stenosis and spinal arthritis. Psoriatic Arthritis is what I am being treated for now, along with the listed diagnoses.

Susan
Susan @godcares

Susanne sorry to hear about your conditions. I too have (or had. LOL) sjogrens syndrome. I also had other diagnosis's of arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, celiac disease, lupus. By my diet and lifestyle change I speak over myself that I am healed. I don't have any pharmaceutical. I do take Moringa and a great fish oil omega now and am always feeling really good. No pain to speak of. I truly hope things get better for you regardless of the route you choose to take in health. Blessings to you.

Dave
Dave @Dave13

Had it since 11, really bad but it just got less then stayed as it was, is now for about 20 years.

Chris
Chris @chris1966

My psoriasis didn't show up until I was in my late 30's early 40's

Vanessa
Vanessa @369tmdw

I was 19, and just certified as hair dresser. After working only 3 month's my fingers broke out, started itching, cracking, oozing, crust over. Had small pustules come up itch break open bleed. I took a break but when I stared back same thing happened. I Had to give up my first career in life. Next few years clear, then after having sore infected on my finger, it started again. Cleared up for a few years, then arms broke out itching, red rash. Large blister like pustules, broke open turned to sites, and left scars on my arms. I now have large red scales on my knees, elbows, shins, and smaller satellite spots all around..

Ree
Ree @ree

I was 42 when I got my first patch. Started on my elbow. Then it started to spread. i had no idea what it was at first, but then it went on my hands, down my back and legs. I do feel lucky it was never facial.
The hardest was on my hands and the reaction from others.

 john,darts vader

thank you for all your replys, interesting to know thank you :)

Desley
Desley @desley

Try 55, John....although I knew exactly what it was as my mother and brother had it very bad so I had done a lot of research for my brother who is now on injections. I was hoping I had escaped it.... After trying all the usual treatments I threw it all out and manage it with diet, coconut oil and Apple Cider Vinegar. I now have a better understanding of why I was annoying the crap out of my brother with all my research because I have found that everyone is different, have different 'triggers' and things that work...you just have to find your 'thing'. ☺️

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

hello desley, yes it can effect anyone at any age, like as you say, it needs a trigger for some people though, my mother had it and i was born with it, you know how it is to be a clear skin all those years

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

BETH
BETH @beth2437

I only got it once I had my son and I know loads of other mums that the same thing has happened. I think its the stress we get at this age causes it.

Tim

Mine started at about 20 years old. Now 48 and it is relentless, even with a very good diet.

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

hello tim, what do you normally eat in your diet,if you dont mind me asking ? sorry about you getting this in your 20s thanks

Tim
Tim @BlueBassett

For starters, I don't eat fast food and I don't drink Soda pop. I eat at home 95% of the time, avoid nightshades, quit drinking, Minimize red meat (once or twice/wk.), eat basmati rice, chicken, pork, only 2 cups of coffee/day, drink lots of water, 100% cranberry juice mixed lightly with my water, and minimize dairy and cheeses. Trying to avoid sugar, but still eating too much of it. Avoid processed food like the plague. Veggies where I can eat them without adding inflammation, broccoli and onions a few mushrooms, nuts without artificial flavorings. I only use peanut and pure olive oil, and details I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Dave
Dave @Dave13

Hi Tim, if its any consolation, food, any food, psoriasis diet or curries and I prefer hot ones, for me, no better, no worse, they make no difference to me at all.
Don't forget, nothing fungal i.e mushrooms etc unless they are Shittake, nothing fermented either..might make a difference for you.

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

it only takes a few things in the diet to have an inflammatory response, we are all different i know, its finding out what sets us off as individuals, the list i put down on marks page that is more of a general no nos because we dont know what effects us, its trial and error to find out i wish i knew,i could be ok with most things who knows like dave as i dont get it bad, more in the case with my arthritis that prompt me to change my diet/lifestyle, i still have the bad thing now and again but,try not to too often thanks :)

I was psoriasis free until 61 years old. This is a 4 year trial and error after error nightmare. Someone said alcohol was a trigger, so I gave that up, my last vice. My house is a disaster because I can't clean without my hands bleeding from the pressure of pushing a vac or scrubbing a pot. I take laundry out of the washer and dryer with gloves on. The best gloves I found are from CVS. They are latex free OATMEAL infused and I can wear them longer without sweating. People stare and I am getting over that.

I got psoriasis when I was 33. Now I am 67 and still fighting this.I just started my 36th medication and am praying that this one works. I got my first shot of [...] yesterday at the dr.'s office. And I also have very dry eyes. I would just love to be clear.

 john,darts vader
john,darts vader @chewbacca

hello doris, sorry to hear this, there are quite a few triggers besides alcahol, just in what you maybe eating can give an inflammatory response, dairy, nightshades, sweets cakes, sauces, junk foods, sauces anything thanks :)

Susan
Susan @godcares

John and Mary65 autoimmune is autoimmune no matter how you look at it. I have sjogren's syndrome which is autoimmune. Just another diagnosis on my life journey. The dry eyes were the first sign and I almost was put on a medicated drop that I would have to take for the rest of my life. I chose the diet lifestyle changes and am still not taking drops. I rarely get the dry eyes now so I am grateful. I remember that time well. I had artificial tear drops though everywhere I went. Kind of like a bondage of sorts. Freedom is way more fun. Blessings to you both.

 john,darts vader

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

Got psoriasis at 36 - psoriatic arthritis at 41 - as I've mentioned before - if it were not for psoriatic arthritis I would still be eating junk - not thrilled about having PA but it forced me to make much needed changes in my diet and for that I am thankful!

Andrea
Andrea @aaross

I was diagnosed when I was 36. Had perfect skin prior to that. To say it was a shock was a huge understatement. No one else in the family has P so I had no clue what it was until an ER doc mentioned it while stitching up my nose :0

Genevieve
Genevieve @Genevieve

I had great skin until my 50s. Then went on a university-study diet, drank lots of milk, almost no food, and boom! Massive breakout that has since receded but never fully gone away the last couple of years. I miss my clear skin....

Susan
Susan @susan127

Hi. I started to have out breaks of psoriasis when I was about 4. I don't remember not having having it. After 30+ years of trying everything. I've finally got something that works.

Susan
Susan @godcares

Shawn great attitude. The thing is we sometimes need a wake up call. Your's was psoriasis and from what you have posted, by doing your regime you are better than before. I know I actually at times feel grateful for all the autoimmune diseases I was diagnosed with. Yes.. It was tough times and lots of pain. Once I got the lightbulb moment that something had to change it was quite empowering and now I get to share what worked for me and I have a great life.

Susan

Carrie

Hello! My psoriasis appeared on my scalp first after my youngest was born and I thought it was dandruff. That is until my eldest got strep which I caught and broke out in what I thought was a very persistent rash... Then my doc did a biopsy and I've had psoriasis ever since.

Nan195
Nan195 @lynnie

Hi all, I was clear until 49/50 and it started on the inside of my right thumb.
It stayed for a year or so and just disappeared.
It appeared on my knuckle and side of an index finger and has stayed for about 16 years, flaring up now and then.
Thanks for the Post and for the comments..sleep tight 😴😴😴🌹
