I have had hand and foot psoriasis for 8 years, then psoriatic arthritis in my finger and toe joints, swollen ankles and lower legs, sore back, inflamed eye lids and lash line, cracked, bleeding and sore skin on my fingers, toes, palms ankles and heals and chronic fatigue... all sorts of fun things - here’s what I did to avoid pharmaceuticals and heal my body...I eliminated my joint pain and improved my psoriasis by 85% by changing my diet drastically - I eat only organic foods and have cut out excess chemicals in my food (pesticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, additives and artificial colors) - I also avoid psoriasis flare up “trigger foods” like nightshade plants (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), alcohol, sugar, wheat/gluten, dairy and do not eat gmo’s - I should add that I’ve been a life long vegetarian but meat is fine as long as it’s organic - I’ve done an enormous amount of reading on the subject - I suggest you do as well - just google “gut health and psoriasis”, gut health and Roundup”, “what foods are sprayed with Roundup”, “psoriasis and diet”, “eating organic and psoriasis”, “inflammation and diet”, “sugar and gut health”, and if your on Facebook follow Dr. Axe and Suzanne Somers, join a few psoriasis forums and natural health or holistic health pages as well - I have been to a couple holistic doctors after going to conventional doctors and dermatologists - what I’ve learned is you must stop eating “poisoned food” - as you know our American diets are full of toxic crap and all those chemicals destroy good gut bacteria - once that happens inflammation occurs triggering auto immune diseases like psoriasis - however, you can control it by changing your diet - I was a junk food junkie - as in McDonalds cheese biscuit and hash browns for breakfast and Doritos and Powerade for dinner - and I knew what I was eating was toxic but until it affected my health I had no intention of changing what I ate - also supplements are equally as important as diet - I suggest the following as they are working great for me and both holistic doctors suggested supplements - a good multivitamin, a good probiotic, a good omega 3 (the reason I say “good” is because they are not all created equally - some cheaper ones are not adequate - do some reading about each of the supplements I’ve listed to learn how much you need of each regarding psoriasis (google psoriasis and supplements) - additionally, I take 5000 IU of vitamin D3, magnesium, calcium, biotin, liquid b12, potassium, and last but not least turmeric curcumin with bioperine 1160 mg per serving, this reduces inflammation better than most pharmaceuticals - in fact, I take it at night before I go to bed and if I forget to take it my joints are stiff in the morning so I know it really helps - lastly I only drink water and lots of it - I add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (with mother) to my 16 oz cup of ice water every morning - at first I thought this is horrible tasting now I actually enjoy the taste ?!? - The goal is to reduce inflammation in your body and heal your gut - diet and supplements are key - I saw great improvement after just 30 days - I am 8 months in and am still seeing improvements - most importantly my joints don’t ache, my skin is considerably improved, my gut is in proper working order and I feel so much better (oh and I’ve lost 65 lbs - how’s that for a side effect) - just keep in mind, you will never “cure or be free” of psoriasis but you can get pretty damn close - I know that changing your diet as drastically as I did may seem overwhelming but you don’t have to do it all at once nor do you have to eliminate as many things as I did - take baby steps - start with eliminating one or two things - start by adding one or two supplements - the very first thing I recommend is start taking turmeric... immediately - start drinking more water, start avoiding anything sprayed with Roundup and cut your sugar intake drastically - oh and moisturize your skin often... I use organic coconut oil and then put socks on - Good Luck to You and just know that you can make changes today that will improve your quality of life tomorrow!!!

so true shawn,i just hope people read and take in what you have put here, think this maybe the longest post?only gripe i have, how do i really know its organic, i dont trust supermarkets,i know when my friend grows stuff in his garden from seeds that go back a few hundred years i think,, it comes free with worms and all that in the cauli etc, that i dont mind, they boil to death and drop out and float to the surface and the food can look beaten up, i dont mind that either thanks, i am eating his grown butternut squash at the moment, just cooked it :)

Shawn Great information. I love Dr. Axe too. I eat very similar to you and don't really think about my diet anymore as it is just habit. No desire to go back to the poison, as you mentioned. I don't spend money on vitamins anymore as my Moringa has all I need, vitamin D from outside and I'm out alot all seasons, I do take a great Omega 3 times a day. I have zero symptoms. I only disagree with one thing. I am healed, and never did think I could not be cured. My mind renewal was a very big thing for my healing and I only speak that over myself. Exercise is a big deal too. I too only drink water. I don't even have rice milk or any substitute. It's a very different life than most. No specialists, no medications, positive thinking. It was a mind/body/soul healing. If you knew me in my 20's I was almost in a wheelchair with pain. A very tough time, but just glad I'm not there and glad that I can share my journey. Someone asked me if I was in remission. I could only chuckle. If I thought that, then my mind would think my conditions would come back. Nope. I speak that I am healed. Music has really been a great tool as well for overall healing.

Susan I love that - anything is possible - you have found the holy grail for your body!!!! I know that people could choose to change their diet but taking a pill probably seems easier as long as there are no complications. I've done a lot of reading on side effects from the most common prescribed psoriasis meds - short term... lowered immune system and more frequent illness - long term... liver damage and "rare" cancers. In the past I really tried to be careful not to say too much when someone mentioned meds but I feel differently now - I've read story after story about someone's loved one contracting lymphoma or being hospitalized for an infection or worse yet dying - I'm now going to start saying - please do research about short and long term side effects - don't get me wrong I am a firm believer in meds at a certain point - but if your psoriasis is better however you now have lymphoma or liver cancer... how is that better? I'm not trying to scare anyone or be critical of anyone's decision to take the pharmaceutical route however I can assure you the prescribing doctor never mentioned hospitalization for infection, lymphoma, liver failure or death.

Otto - 8 months ago starting BMI 35.9 “obese” - today 26.7 still considered “overweight” - I would have to lose 11 more pounds to be at the top of the “normal” range! The damn BMI scale wants you skinny!

John - in the US, USDA Organic labeling and certification verifies that products meet all requirements in the USDA organic regulations from farm to market. The USDA organic regulations specify production and processing requirements (such as conserving natural resources and preventing commingling with non-organic products). They also specify which substances (such as animal drugs) are allowed and prohibited. For example, the use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, growth hormones, sewage sludge, irradiation, and GMOs are prohibited. There are some synthetic substances allowed in US organic farming - they are listed on the certified organic farming website - Most importantly, GMO’s, Glyphosate (Roundup) and growth hormones in livestock are strictly prohibited in US Organic Certified Foods.

Well Done Shawn! Thank you for sharing your experiences! Very inspiring :)
I am curious about Omega 3's. Susan you mentioned you take yours 3x a day. Do you mind sharing how many mg you take in each dose? I want to make sure I am taking the right amount. It says just 1 tsp a day on the bottle I have . Epa per teaspoon is 1500mg +500mg DHA/ADH. Thanks!

Susan
Susan @godcares

Shawn I am just someone who really stuck with it all. Mind/body/soul. Believe me... I was very sick and did the whole medication thing for a very long time. Heck, I had kids, worked my ass off, volunteered, hosted parties and events, did public speaking, taught students, managed dental clinics, set up clinics... Jeez, my life was crazy busy and I had to do something with medications to survive the pain that was ravaging my body. We all do what we have to in the Season we are in. I chose that route. The last few decades I was in a different season. Now another season. I just can't go back. My diet and all that I did may not work for everyone. I guess I just think it's worth a try anyway.

Susan @godcares

Michelle my omega is 3, 6,9 but I sometimes have different ones. They are always 1200 mg capsules. I take 2 three times a day. So that's a total of 7200 mg a day I believe...

Ruben
Ruben @ruben

I'm taking extra Omega 3 (not 6, heard that one's bad for P) Magnesium, complex B and recently Vit D and Curcumin. The omega 3, magnesium and B already helped a lot! Now waiting the results of the vitamine D and Curcumin. (only started Saturday)

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

I take Omega 3 - 1 capsule daily - EPA 750 mg - DHA 228 mg - Other Omega 3’s 96 mg - will do research on taking extra - this is why I love this group!!! Ruben if you have PSA joint stiffness or pain you won’t believe how much the curcumin helps! Vitamin D is also key - I take a total of 6400 UI - recently read a medical study done in long term care facilities - they found that if you take at least 4000 UI daily you lower your chances 40% of acute respiratory illness - those taking lower doses around 1000 UI also had double the incidence of fall - vitamin d lowers inflammation and increase antimicrobial defenses - it improves the immune systems ability to fight infection and prevent illnesses like colds, pneumonia, influenza and bronchitis... high doses of vitamin D prevent and fight bacterial infections and may even prevent infections and exacerbations of COPD and emphysema.

Ruben
Ruben @ruben

Thanks for the info Shaw, I found fresh turmeric as well, looking to use it in meals. Don't think I can overdose on curcumin :p

Hi Shawn, it's good to hear your view on this and the positive journey you've made so far. It is a massive achievement! And great that you have seen such changes with it. I think the availability of organic foods is an issue, I wish mainstream supermarkets here in UK could stock more choice in more product ranges. I guess if people like us create consumer demand that could change...

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

Sarah - in my town we have 4 grocery stores that carry many organic items - 2 or 3 more that carry some organic items and believe it or not I was in Walmart recently and they had organic lettuce and salad dressing !?! If Walmart is getting on board... there’s hope!

Ellen
Ellen @ellen4

Please advise ...is the Vitamin D & Curcumin in tablet form or powder ????Also are they two separate items...

Ruben
Ruben @ruben

Hi Ellen, I found a capsule online. MyProtein sells sport supplements, but for Europe I found a vegeterian capsule containing Curcumin and Vit D for a reasonable price. Only started taking them Saturday, so not able to tell if there will be results. But reading a lot of posts here I saw the benefit in adding extra curcumin (already add some turmeric to my breakfast every day) and vitamine D.

Ellen
Ellen @ellen4

Thanks Ruben ...

Michelle
Michelle @mishlyn

I live in a small town where organic food is hard to find at reasonanle prices. We take a trip 2x a month out of town to stock up. Otherwise I make sure what I buy here is local. Our farmers markets are great as well!
I am going to hunt some tumeric as well, is it best powder form or raw? Or are both benifical? Thanks!

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

Both holistic doctors suggested turmeric curcumin with bioprine - I take it in pill form - 1160 mg per serving - you can google a supplier and have it shipped to your house - it’s about $20 for a 2 months supply - multiple medical studies have shown that turmeric is as effective as 14 drugs - google “turmeric as effective as 14 drugs” - read for yourself

Michelle
Michelle @mishlyn

Thanks Shawn! I appreciate it 😊

I too got away from the pharma drugs and started on a regimen of Immunocal with Glutathione, it totally cleared my psoriasis within a months time, still have some spots here and there at times, but go back to the Immunocal and it goes away, I also take probiotics to help my immune system

Sarah
Sarah @sarahuk

I've heard great things from others about Glutathione...

Wow Celia that’s incredible!!! I’ll be reading up Immunocal ASAP! Thank you for sharing the info!

Shawn I have been taking my magnesium through food.
350 mg is needed each day and I have yogurt, muesli and chia seeds together and a banana for breakfast. I eat nuts and drink milk to make sure I get enough.
I know you are not an advocate of medication but I have fibromyalgia, asthma, hashimotos , GORD, osteoarthritis, various skin conditions but I would not be able to get out of bed due to the pain.
I do not want to take any other tablets.
I have omega 3 in my diet lots of fish.
I will be trying turmeric powder soon .
I have read some articles on grounding/ walking on the earth/grass to help with pain and depression.

Cherie
Cherie @cherie2

Thanks OTTO I live very close to the beach but have trouble walking very far I have stage 6 fibromyalgia.
I love the beach but for now the grass in my backyard will have to do.

 john,Hulk
john,Hulk @chewbacca

wow cherie, thats a lot of inflammation :( yogurt is okay if dairy free, too much fruit is not good for us because of sugars, breads and pasta turn to sugars, all these things cause inflammation for us, packet items, jars ,tins are generally bad because of the stabilisers, additives, salt and sugars they cause inflammation,

Susan
Susan @godcares

Cherie I am a huge advocate of diet for healing. That Muesli does taste good. I would suggest get rid of the milk. I haven't had it in decades. Truly we do not need milk and we continue to teach our kids to drink it too. All the conditions you have are autoimmune. Been there too about 3 decades ago. Lots of medication or I could not walk. I have many dis-eases I was diagnosed with and the worst was lupus. The dairy (Milk and cheese) were one of the first to go. If you want to do the elimination cleanse diet we are doing here on Flaym let me know by private message and I'll send it to you. Blessings to you.

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

Cherie are you seeing any improvements with diet changes?

Shawn
Shawn @EatOrganic

I realllllllllly wish @Flaym would allow photos - you would not believe my before and after of my foot. I need to post them somewhere so you can see. Drastic improvements. Virtually gone. All from diet changes and supplements.
