Treatment

Does anyone take immune suppressant tablets for their P? I’m just having the pre screening blood tests. I have chronic anaemia, so I’m really hoping that isn’t a problem. Anyway, do the tablets helps? I’ve only had P since late October.

Hi NikSam, I have not tried the immune suppressant tablets, but there are many people here who have tried it and have had really good results with their skin clearing. Have a browse through the themes section for Biologics, you will find some great content on others experiences. Welcome to Flaym!

Hey NikSam, welcome to Flaym! I was prescribed immunosuppressive medications last year for severe plaque and guttate psoriasis. The dermo told me to research the medication before I took it and I did, but for me I wanted to try other things first. So I did! A year on and my guttate psoriasis is completely clear and my plaque is calm. But! If I have future severe outbreaks and trying other things didn't help, I would consider the meds again. Its about quality of life isn't it...

My Dermo told me to read about it too and I know that this is my only option. Ointments, foams, scalp applications etc are incredibly difficult, as I’m bed bound/house bound almost all of the time. Before showering I always need morphine which I’m now having to do daily. Having a bath is not an option. I shaved my head as my scalp was so bad, but because I can’t apply anything often enough because of my other health issues so I’m not able to get it under control at all. I had very little quality of life and now I’m even worse than I was 3 months ago because I have P from head to toe.

Yes I absolutely think that if I were in your shoes I'd make that choice to refuse immunos very differently. It was only because there was stuff I hadn't tried yet that I turned them down. But I would do it in a heartbeat if my suffering was as you describe. I'm thinking of you, and hoping your options will help you along the road to recovery 💚

Hi Sarah,
Thank you. My fear is that my pre screening bloods will rule it out. Then I just don’t know how I’ll cope. I really appreciate your thoughts and understanding 💙

Good Luck Nikki! I hope it works out for you with your blood screening!

Bloods being done this morning, in time for my Dermo on Monday. Fearing the worst and hoping for the best. It all depends on blood tests.

My anaemia is worse than it was 6 weeks ago. My Hb is down to 8.8 and my iron has gone up a tiny bit, to 5! My GP is arranging for me to have some iron infusions. I think my chances of getting autoimmune tablets just went down a lot 😔
