Coping

Does anyone else get sore fingertips? Hasn't bothered me in a while, but the past couple days they have been tender. I wonder why this is??

Oh wow.. thanks Clint! I never knew the 2 could go hand in hand. After reading your post I started googling.. lol.
I think it may be this:
Subungual hyperkeratosis – which is one aspect of nail p. Its a chalky substance & accumulates under the nail. The nail becomes raised and can become tender, especially when the surface of the nail is pressed. Subungual hyperkeratosis of the toenails can be particularly uncomfortable because when wearing shoes the nail may be put under constant pressure.
I have had in in the past as well. I think maybe they go through their own kind of flare up?

Hi Michelle. I can understand that "The nail becomes raised and can become tender, especially when the surface of the nail is pressed". After I have learned about nail P, I have made a point of it to only wear open heel shoes even through winter. I do wear boots sometimes but not pointy toe boots. I only wear tekkies (sneakers) on weekends when I go hiking but other than that, it's always either my slippers or open shoes as I don't want to put pressure on my toe nails. Thank you for sharing this information. :)

I get very sore finger tips and they crack and the skin goes very hard.

My hubby had it on one toe nail but it doesn't hurt him

Michelle x2.. nail P is quite painful especially when they flare & have a build up ..they become very tender & painful to touch. I also only use open sandals even during winter...wearing closed shoes is painful...I do lots of FUN walks so I went to buy a size bigger in sneakers so they don't hurt my toes...

That was a great idea Ellen and I'm sure your toes are more comfortable as well? One size bigger doesn't make much of a difference, depending on the shoe of course but sneakers are easy. I think that is why I got those 2 spots on my foot due to the cold but I'm not taking chances with nail P. Rather die from cold lol. Just kidding.
Bev/Ellen What do you use for your Nail P? (Bev @HUBBY)

Have you been using bleach at all I find it makes my finger tips sore

Bev
Bev @bev43

Michelle He hadn't been using anything. We just thought it was a old age thing until we read about it on here

Michelle
Michelle @michelle1021

That must've been a shocker Bev?? How was his flare before you found out it was P? You have P yourself right?

Ellen
Ellen @ellen4

Michelle I soak my feet in hot water with ACV & bicarb...thereafter I take my nail file & remove the build up under my nail ..it is soooo soft after the soak. I also have P under my foot so I rub my feet , nails & all with coconut oil ..my toe nails are so much better they actually looking normal ...no lifting !!! ... finger nails are another story as I am constantly using my hands without gloves ...

Michelle
Michelle @michelle1021

That's wonderful Ellen. I'm happy for you. I can imagine how difficult it must be with your nail P. we always work with our hands and can't really do anything without it. To treat it, like wearing gloves to keep it warm and soft is out of the question. Our hands are always exposed. :)

Thanks for the tips Ellen I'll have to get my hubby to try that. He had P over his whole body, legs and arms although since we did the diet and moisturising he hasn't had a flare. I only have it in the ears and I icht like made but he doesn't

Thanks everyone for the insight & tips! I have been so busy & cleaning a lot... without gloves... I think this may have been what triggered
it. I haven't been cleaning with bleach, but other cleaners. Gloves on from now on!! I trimmed back all of my nails today and they have been much better.. not knocking them on everything, lol. 2 more days until the move..my body aches.. lol. Bonus is, I have my 1st treatment for massage therapy the same day! It was put off because of insurance, but finally can continue with it). Mid move.. I am off for a massage and chiro for an hour. Looking forward to it 😊
Thanks for all the tips! Going to try the acv soak soon!
