I too have done the life style and diet changes. Very similar to John, no gluten, minimum sugar except the natural in fruit (apples, pears and berries - avoid tropical fruits with lots of sugars in them), no beige foods (that's the rice, potatoes in addition to all the gluten ones), no cow milk. I did eat cow milk yoghurt and cheese (not a lot a lot, but sort of quite a lot), but that went too about six months ago when I started to try out being vegan. I eat very dark chocolates (85% or more) some brands work and others not, I drink wine, I drink gin but not with tonic (too much sugar). I take apple cider vinegar twice a day, a teaspoon of turmeric powder + a teaspoon of cracked black pepper once a day, multi vitamin (check for iodine, zinc, calcium if vegan), D3 in winter (check with blood tests now and again to not be too high), omega 3 oils. B12 is needed for everybody unless you eat a lot of meat. I know this sounds like a tough regime, it is and it is not - you get used to it. And in my case, I don't think the vegan bit made much difference so I will stay on it until I get bored or used to it. It is not too bad, just sometimes when eating out it can be hard and I feel like a trouble to have in the group. As I do it for my personal health rather than any other reason, I can cheat if I want to! I also drink coffee, green tea and lemon & ginger. I don't smoke. When I have the occasional flare I get very scared I won't handle it, and that is still after 40 years since diagnosis. The fear is my worst experience. My recent flu jab for over 65's triggered a horrible flare, but it reversed quickly. I meditate and exercise regularly. Hormonal changes were hard for me. Initially acupuncture helped a lot. I'm happy to give more details if somebody wants to know.
