Tattoos and Psoriasis
Support and advice about tattoos and psoriasis.
I've got one big tattoo and 2 small , I did the big one last year, I had no problem, and my Pso didn't attack it at all.... how is that happening?
Keeping your hands clean is as important as keeping your tattoo clean, because your hands can introduce bacteria to your tattoo very easily. Make sure to wash your new tattoo several times a day with a soft, non-scented, antibacterial soap to keep it clean and avoid potential infection. Remember, never touch your tattoo unless you have just washed your hands!
Don't Scratch It, It will probably itch throughout this time, do not scratch!
I applied a moisturizer on my new tattoo several times per day for the first week or you can do that until it heals.
Yes we all get the 'Koebner effect'. 1 injury = 99% Psoriasis spot.
About tattoos; never had Psoriasis on them... it's just the last few years that they warn us to not take a tattoo; Seems like we may not have fun or what??? I had my tattoos before I got Psoriasis.
Get your tattoo David... there is already a lot we can't do thanks to that Psoriasis. Gosh...I'm such a bad advisor hahaha. Go get it... be proud about it... and don't let Psoriasis take over your life!!!
Mine is not inherited. No one on either side of my family has had psoriasis. Have no idea where it came from but I have a theory. Never had an issue until I was in my 40's. I got a "bad" tattoo, meaning he went to deep and left a few scars. This was not my first tattoo. Within 2 years I got psoriasis on my fingers, treated it with creams and it went away. Now it's mostly on my feet and legs (the area I have the crappy tattoo) and nothing calms it down. No cream, lotion, pills etc.

People with psoriasis must think about the potential risks when considering getting a tattoo. Whether or not tattoos increase the risk of worsening psoriasis or causing a flare on the tattooed skin is a debate. Considering a tattoo?
